CattleUSA Insurance Partner Logic Ag Marketing Commentary

Will we break out next week? Or was hitting the top of this trading range the end of the February rally? Cash might support a breakout, if we continue the cash rally. The packers really fought hard to avoid cash above $240 this week, but some couldn't fight it and were forced to buy in a range from $242 to $245. Next week's cash might be contingent on futures action and boxes, and the futures' action and boxes might lead the cash. It's incredible how strong we've stayed, with all the credit going to the feedyards that stuck to their guns.

Hogs and grains had a rough close for the week, while equities and metals finished stronger than most would've expected yesterday. I'm led to believe the volatility in most markets is being driven by the uncertainty in equities. If equities boom into new highs, cattle could easily follow and grains erase some of their gains. If equities struggle, grains and hogs might push higher while cattle experience a correction. Maybe none of it happens and markets continue to chop everyone up going into spring. For every winner there's a loser, and longs and shorts have experienced both winning and losing this week in nearly every market. Options are pricey for a reason. Doesn't mean they're not worth looking at. This market has a habit of inflicting pain shortly after you think you figure it out. Don't let it beat you up to the point you throw in the towel. Manage your risk, in both directions. Have a great weekend and eat a steak and a few pork chops.

AGRICULTURE NEWS

Cattle Rally Still Has Room

Despite record prices, shrinking cow numbers, delayed herd rebuilding, and resilient beef demand suggest cattle markets may not have peaked. Analysts say tight supplies could persist for years, supporting higher prices, though volatility and careful risk management remain essential. read more here

COOL Misrepresents Antibiotic Safety Claims

The column argues R-CALF wrongly links COOL to antimicrobial resistance. Origin labels don’t show antibiotic use or improve safety; only process-verified programs and science-based, global approaches address AMR. Mixing politics with science misleads consumers and producers alike. read more here

Saving Arizona’s Dude Ranches

Urban sprawl threatens Arizona’s historic dude ranches, shrinking their numbers and pressuring families to sell. Owners stress stewardship, culture, and tourism value, while new state programs aim to preserve these working ranches—though tax relief has fallen short so far. read more here

Markets Mixed, Cattle Rebound

Grain markets turned mixed as soybeans stayed supported by China-buying rumors while corn and wheat faded. Livestock futures rebounded sharply, with live and feeder cattle surging after prior losses, supported by higher Southern cash cattle prices. read more here

Grains Rally, Risks Remain

Corn, soybeans and wheat strengthened on short-covering and China demand hopes, but export sales weakened across all three. Funds drove much of the rally as technicals improved, while traders stay cautious ahead of USDA’s next supply-and-demand report and South American crop updates. read more here

AI Angst Jolts Tech Stocks

A sharp sell-off in software stocks rattled markets as investors feared AI disruption, despite a late-week rebound. Strategists say selling may be overdone, noting big firms can adapt.
