CattleUSA Insurance Partner Logic Ag Marketing Commentary

I think every grain farmer in North America should send Iran a thank you letter this weekend because I have a hard time believing this rally would've happened without tensions rising and missiles flying. I also think every livestock producer wants to flip off the Union boss in Greeley and the Iranian ding dongs that started this mess. Oil higher and stocks lower isn't friendly to livestock markets while running at these highly elevated levels. We need cool, calm, and collected consumers, not the uncertainty we've seen this week. Yes, grains are the trade right now and money flow is buying with both hands. How long will that last? Until they're bored or they find a reason to go somewhere else. I'm using this rally to get hedges in place. Reason #1: I don't trust China. Reason #2: I don't plan to have a February drought affect my production. And the 3rd and final reason: In my opinion, a healthy corn bull market rallies a little each day over a long period of time, not 20 cents in 2 days. Unhealthy headline trading up could easily lead to a fast collapse when oil and grains aren't the sexy play anymore. Yes, there's plenty of corn around the world, but money flow has decided to take us for a ride, so use it to your advantage.
Cash cattle this week will be considered lower, but not as bad as it could've been early in the week. I think, assuming we avoid a strike in Greeley, we could see a more aggressive packer bidding next week. I'd like to see a steady market stabilize us here and rally in late March to make those spring grilling meat contracts the retailers wrote. Do I, or will I, get what I want? We'll see.
Have a great weekend and enjoy the warmer spring like weather.
